When a tooth is fractured, has a large old filling, has had root canal therapy, or is severely damaged by decay, Dr. Moore may recommend the placement of a crown or cap. Crowns strengthen and protect the remaining tooth structure and can improve the appearance of your smile.

All porcelain and porcelain-fused-to-metal crowns are aesthetically preferred because they are tooth colored and can be used to change the color and shape of a tooth. An all-metal crown is the strongest and is usually placed on molars where it cannot be seen, but is needed for superior strength.

Few incidents have greater impact on dental health and personal appearance than tooth loss. When one or more teeth are missing, the remaining teeth can drift out of position, which can lead to a change in the bite, the loss of additional teeth, decay, and/or gum disease.

When tooth loss occurs, Dr. Moore may present a bridge as an option for replacement. When placing a bridge, the teeth (abutments) on both sides of the space are covered with crowns, and an artificial tooth (pontic) is attached to the crowns.

Most often used for patients who have somehow lost a tooth or teeth – whether through accident, injury, or periodontal disease, dental implants are artificial tooth “roots” -typically made of titanium, which are placed into the jaw to stabilize a replacement tooth, bridge, or even dentures. Implants help stop periodontal disease from forming by eliminating gaps in the mouth where disease and infection are likely to occur, and preventing the shifting of teeth which can cause more long-term damage. Implants can also have a dramatic cosmetic effect by replacing broken or damaged teeth, or areas where there are no teeth at all, with natural looking, beautiful crowns.
