Home Remedies for Cleaning Dentures

Dentures are helpful devices in not only achieving a beautiful smile but also in maintaining your facial structure. For most people, it is a tool they rely on because they wouldn’t be able to eat or talk properly without them.

Although dentures are instruments that can be replaced, it still requires proper care. It includes sanitizing and keeping them safe. Luckily, there are things you can do with tools you already own at home. Listed below are some of the home remedies you can use for cleaning dentures.

White Vinegar

One thing you can find at home that you can use to sanitize your dentures is white vinegar. This type of solution usually has 5% acetic acid, which is a colorless compound helpful in eliminating bacteria. That is why using it on your dentures will keep them clean and free of unwanted elements that may cause bad breath.

To use it safely on your dentures, pour only 1 tsp of vinegar and mix it with a cup of warm water. Soak your dentures in this solution for half an hour or overnight. The following day, make sure to rinse your fake teeth first before wearing them.

Baking Soda

Another handy ingredient in cleaning your dentures is baking soda. Like white vinegar, it is also a compound known to be effective in controlling foul odors. It’s helpful as well against discoloration because of its whitening properties.

Baking soda can be applied to your dentures in two different ways. You can use it as a paste by mixing it with drops of water. Alternatively, you can turn it into a solution where you can soak your dentures for about 30 to 45 minutes. All you have to do is mix 2 tsp of baking soda with a cup of warm water.

Lemon Juice

Lemon juice is a cleansing element likewise beneficial for your dentures. It has citric acid, an organic compound effective in removing stains, and can also act as a natural bleaching agent to make your dentures appear whiter. Create the solution by squeezing a lemon into a cup of water. When soaking your fake teeth, remember not to leave them for more than 40 minutes, as the acidic nature of the lemon juice can damage your dental device.
